Seniors Amani Lyles and Tavari Johnson continued to be an impressive one-two scoring combination for the University of Akron men’s basketball team Friday, Feb. 20.
Lyles scored 26 points and Johnson scored 25 points to lead the Zips to a 78-65 win over host Ball State in a Mid-American Conference game at Worthen Arena in Muncie, Indiana.
Akron (22-5, 13-1) led 40-36 at halftime on its way to a regular-season sweep of Ball State (8-19, 3-11).
Lyles made 9 of 16 shots from the field, including 4 of 7 from beyond the 3-point arc, and 4 of 4 free throws. He also grabbed eight rebounds.
Johnson made 9 of 20 shots from the field, including 2 of 8 from beyond the 3-point arc, and 5 of 5 free throws. He also had six rebounds and six assists.
Akron senior Shammah Scott scored eight points. Redshirt freshman Eric Mahaffey contributed seven points, six rebounds and three assists and senior Evan Mahaffey chipped in six points, five rebounds and five assists.
Davion Hill paced Ball State with 18 points and 11 rebounds and Devon Barnes had 16 points and three assists.
