MANHATTAN — Things have gotten so bad for Kansas State basketball that even notable players of the program’s past are calling out the program on social media.
During the Wildcats’ 95-61 loss to No. 9 Iowa State on Sunday, Feb. 1, former point guard Jacob Pullen took to X to express his frustration. Beloved former guard Clent Stewart did as well.
“It’s hard to watch, honestly,” Pullen posted during the first half of the game, in which the Wildcats trailed by as many as 32.
“Iowa State is very good,” Stewart posted after the game. “But that was hard to watch. That hurt.”
Pullen also followed with a post after the game, which marked the program’s third-largest home margin of defeat.
“Embarrassing to say the least,” Pullen wrote. “The effort, the energy, the defense and the offense. I never thought I’d see the day where Iowa State beat us by 35 (sic) at home. I think (sic) lost once in my career to them.”
The loss marked another low for the Wildcats, who lost their third straight game and dropped to 10-12 overall and 1-8 in Big 12 play. Kansas State honored former standout basketball players during halftime of the loss, but didn’t with its play on the court.
Pullen was a three-time captain at K-State, finishing his career tied for the most wins in a career. He ranks in the top 10 in six career categories in Big 12 history, including second in free throws and fourth in scoring. He played for the Wildcats from 2007-11 and was a part of three NCAA Tournament teams.
Stewart was a K-State guard from 2004-08, and often contributes to GoPowerCat, the 247Sports branch that covers Kansas State. Stewart started 92 games for the Wildcats, helping them reach the NCAA Tournament in 2008, the program’s first since 1996.
It’s pretty safe to say things aren’t going well around the Kansas State basketball program right now.
