KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The new glass LED basketball court for the Big 12 Tournament has received plenty of criticism over the past several days due to its lack of traction.
Those complaints were only amplified on Thursday after Texas Tech guard suffered an apparent groin injury after slipping while trying to get open on an inbound pass in the second half against Iowa State. He did not return to the game.
“I’m feeling good,” Anderson said. “You know, obviously the floor is a bit slippery, so I think I just kind of misstepped or did a movement that caused me to slip and kind of ended up in an unnatural position.”
“It’s definitely different, it’s a challenge at times. It’s obviously a different surface than what we’re used to playing on and there was some challenging moments today,” TTU Head Coach Grant McCasland said.
Texas Tech forward LeJuan Watts also left the game in the second half after injuring his ankle and players were slipping on the court throughout the game.
Earlier in the week, K-State senior Khamari McGriff reported experiencing a migraine caused by the flashing lights on the LED court following their loss to BYU. K-State junior Taj Manning completely dismissed the floor, saying the Big 12 shouldn’t bring it back.
Kansas Head Coach Bill Self said the floor was fine, but felt different from a traction standpoint compared to Allen Fieldhouse.
The tournament will march on with the new LED Court, with the semifinals taking place on Friday evening and the championship on Saturday.
