The Duke Blue Devils are gearing up to make a big run in the ACC Tournament. Eventually, the goal is to gain momentum during March Madness and then notch their first NCAA Tournament National Championship since 2015. Obviously, Coach Jon Scheyer will have to rely on his stars like Cam Boozer and Maliq Brown. Caleb Foster, on the other hand, still remains indefinitely out but it might not be long until he makes a return.
Scheyer, Blue Devils target Final Four return for Foster
Duke will need to stall for a lot of time before they get Foster back. He went down in the first half against the UNC Tar Heels and it was another injury on his right foot, the same one he has struggled with in seasons past. Foster was immediately taken to have surgery after the unfortunate incident at the rivalry game.
A lot of Duke fans are wondering if he will be ready for the ACC Tournament or March Madness. Coach Scheyer outlines that his veteran guard could come back during the NCAA Tournament's Final Four, via ESPN.
"In his mind and our mind, we'll do everything we possibly can with our mindset to continue to advance where we can give him a shot to come back when it's all said and done. I think the reality of it is, we'd have to advance to a Final Four. Is there a chance earlier? I'm not going to eliminate that right now. But I think that's really difficult to try to even imagine that scenario. We're not going to have him the next couple of weeks, the next few weeks," the Blue Devils head coach declared.
This now means that Foster's return for Duke's March Madness run will be a up in the air. Coach Scheyer will have to rely on his other guards after starting Foster throughout 30 games in their campaign. He averaged 8.5 points alongside 2.8 assists and brought a veteran presence in the Duke locker room whenever times got tough.
Boozer will have to up his scoring and there needs to be other Blue Devils guards who step up. Will Coach Scheyer muster up the proper rotations and schemes to lead this team to a March Madness Final Four berth?
