KENT — A former Mid-American Conference guard who also had a taste of Big Ten basketball is transferring to Kent State.
Chansey Willis Jr. will join the Golden Flashes for the 2026-27 season. The Detroit native statrted seven games at Minnesota this year before he suffered a season-ending injury. He also spent the 2024-25 season at Western Michigan, where he led the MAC in scoring at 16.8 points a game and assists at 5.8 a game.

“I am incredibly excited to add a point guard of Chansey’s caliber here to Kent State,” Flashes head coach Rob Senderoff said in a release issued by Kent State. “We obviously played against him two years ago when he was at Western Michigan, and I thought that he was the best point guard in the conference that we competed against.
“I can’t wait to have a guy who’s as dynamic a two-way player as Chansey to our program. He defends at an elite level, he can score and he’s an incredibly gifted passer. So I’m really excited for him to join our team and look forward to him being here this summer.”
Willis played at Detroit King High School and was named Michigan’s Mr. Basketball and Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year in 2022. He spent his first collegiate season at Saginaw Valley State and also played at Henry Ford College.
